Lots of celebrating on the astrological internet about Mars leaving Cancer and entering Leo—and rightfully so, Mars first entered Cancer back in September of 2024, this is an energy we have spent a *lot* of time with since last fall. Mars in Cancer tends to be seen as Mars in a challenging place, as Mars, the planet of action, resides in watery, emotional, nostalgic Cancer, and doesn’t feel resourced to do his best work on the battlefield of life.
Mars stationed retrograde last December 6th, at 6° Leo, and on January 3rd he opposed Pluto in Aquarius, bringing a chaotic, challenging energy to the collective. Mars loves to fight, and Pluto loves to transform by plunging people into a little dark night of the soul. These planets combined can be quite alchemical, but we’re usually a bit pained by the process.
Now that Mars is out of Cancer, in Leo, he is forming another opposition to Pluto in Aquarius, and this energy will build until April 26th, when the opposition perfects itself. What this means is, we’re now in a pressure cooker similar to the energy of the beginning of January, and looking to bring about resolution to difficulties that have been boiling for a long time.
I share all of this to give some perspective on the planets and the narratives they weave for us. I think we should all reflect back on what was going on for us after the New Year, especially around the topics of anger, frustration, power dynamics, control, and change, and reflect on how those themes are maybe still percolating, unresolved for us, for the next week or so.
